InfoShot: Which AI has the highest IQ?

Despite the literal billions of dollars being invested in Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, and Deep Learning, AI just isn’t that smart yet. Sure, it can do some very clever things, but usually only specific tasks after ingesting masses of data. So who’s smarter, AIs such as Siri, or a child?

Intelligence Quotient and Intelligence Grade of Artificial Intelligence, a new paper from researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing and the College of Information Science and Technology University of Nebraska Omaha looks to quantify the intelligence of Artificial Intelligence of various technology companies.

Rating “knowledge mastery, learning, use and creation”, the study found that Google’s AI had an Intelligence Quotient (IQ) of 47.28, the highest of any of the non-human systems tested. However, this was lower than the paper’s average score for a six-year-old (55.5), and less than half of that of an 18-year-old. Baidu’s AI scored 32.82, and Sogou’s 32.25.

A similar study conducted in 2014 found Google’s AI had an IQ of 26.6, while Baidu’s had 23.5, Sogous’s 22, so all three have seen double-digit improvement despite falling short of a child’s intelligence.

Microsoft’s Bing and Xiaobing scored 31.98 and 24.48 respectively, while Apple’s Siri has an IQ of just 23.94. Anyone with an IQ of 140 of higher is considered a genius.
