Name: Gabi Malka
Job Title: COO
What was the most valuable piece of career advice that you received?
There is a difference between management and leadership. Management is doing things right. Leadership is doing the right thing.
What was the worst piece of business advice that you received?
Not bad advice as such, but I learnt early on through experience of watching others that authenticity is vital to succeed.
What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the tech industry?
I’d share my experience and the things that have worked for me:
What tips would you give to someone aiming for a c-level position?
Probably that same advice I was given about the difference between management and leadership. Leadership needs a vision, authenticity and the ability to delegate to achieve results. I’d also add that you are still a person, with a family and a life. Make sure you lead by example in striking a balance between being a boss, a team player and a friend.
Are you particularly proud of any career advice that you’ve given or the career route/development of anyone you’ve mentored? I always take pride in seeing someone progress, either as a result of having a direct mentoring relationship or in providing a place to work where people can get on. I think there’s a lot to be said for more indirect development. People can have great mentors but the circumstances also have to be right for them to take advantage of the advice, and crucially want to stay with your company and achieve more.
