Android device updates: LG G5, Sony Xperia XZ, X Performance, HTC 10 score Nougat

More phone makers are starting to dish out Nougat. LG, HTC, and Sony models are among the lucky group this week, while we have more details from Huawei about their own plans for Android Nougat.

Each week, we round up all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and security holes.

LG

G5: Two models of this phone are already seeing a Nougat rollout. The Verizon and Sprint editions of the G5 have an over-the-air update underway. Check your phone to see if there’s an update ready for you to download.

Sony

Xperia X Performance: Sony confirmed the Nougat update is coming now. Along with all of Google’s goodies the update brings the latest version of Sony’s interface, which keeps things pretty minimal compared to other skins.

Xperia XZ: Same story for the Xperia XZ. Sony even made a short video to show off the new look and features. While announcing the updates, the company also confirmed Nougat is coming to nine other models: Xperia X3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia X5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, and Xperia X Compact.

HTC

HTC 10: The unlocked model of the HTC 10 is getting Nougat now, the company confirmed in a tweet. HTC also announced that carrier versions of the HTC 10 and HTC One M9 will see Nougat rolling out early in the new year.

Huawei

Nougat updates: Huawei on Friday confirmed that several new phones will get the latest version of Android and the company’s custom software. The following lucky recipients are:

  • Huawei Mate 8
  • Huawei P9
  • Huawei P9 Plus
  • Huawei P9 lite
  • Huawei Nova
  • Huawei Nova Plus

Stay tuned as this will first come in beta form before Huawei finishes up a final build.
