What was the most valuable piece of career advice that you received?
I was lucky enough to launch a start-up as my very first job, thus I have pretty much had to learn on the job and haven't received career advice from a more senior person.

What was the worst piece of business advice that you received?
To make any business advice that you receive the worst advice, one would have to act on it, otherwise you wouldn't see it as bad advice. However, if someone feels responsible, they wouldn't want to deflect responsibility in a case like this. If I did something based on someone else's advice, then it was my decision, thus my fault. There are a number of trial and errors that I have encountered in the past, but I like to believe that I learned from all of them.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the tech industry?
Learn as much as you can. Be brave enough to fail and learn from it. Try to run something: start an open source project, organise a meetup or help the local community. Try to create something that is more than just the activity itself.

What tips would you give to someone aiming for a c-level position?
Keep your eyes on the horizon, look for reasons how your activity connects with business goals. Choose a business which enables individuals to grow.

Are you particularly proud of any career advice that you’ve given or the career route/development of anyone you’ve mentored?
Someone I know was the owner of a well-established, stable business with moderate growth rate, but enough to make a living. He was working on a start up in his spare time, I saw its potential and told him to start it for real and so he did just that. He got funded, built traction and is now busy working on world domination :)
