Gone are the days when you could use one platform for all your development and delivery tool needs. Each team – testers, developers, business analysts, project managers etc. – work in their best-of-breed tools to help them optimize their job. These tools are great for facilitating the specific tasks they’re built for, but visibility and traceability across the whole software development and delivery team starts to suffer once a fragmented tool stack is introduced.

Getting these endpoints to interoperate is not a purely technical challenge, in fact it’s more of a business problem. Tackling it requires expertise and a deep level of understanding of what users need from their systems, how they plan to use them and how organizations connect these systems for specific business objectives.

While there are a couple of choices one can make in selecting the technical integration infrastructure – such as integration via APIs or at the database layer – the real challenges have more to do with overcoming the friction caused by the dissimilarities among these tools to ensure a flawless integration.
