Since last year the average total cost of a data breach has decreased to $3.62 million while the average cost paid for each lost or stolen record containing sensitive and confidential information decreased from $158 in 2016 to $141. This Ponemon Institute report examines the costs incurred by 419 companies in 17 industry sectors after those companies experienced the loss or theft of protected personal data and discusses the financial and reputational benefits of having a Business Continuity Management programme in place in the event of a breach.
