What do you feel is the most important aspect of your job? “Balance. Information security is one of the few areas within the business that cuts through multiple departments, functions, skill sets, and problems that need attention.”
What makes an effective tech strategy? “You'll need to pursue a tech strategy that enables you to quickly test, validate and integrate new hardware and software as it becomes available.”
What advice would you give to someone starting their career in IT/tech? “Try lots of different things, do not be afraid to make mistakes, and be open and honest about everything you do.”
What advice would you give to aspiring security leaders? “There are two. Help people achieve their personal goals, while also making sure that you help the business achieve their goals.”
Are there any technologies that you think are overhyped? Why? “This may sound surprising, but I'd say Kubernetes - we've felt the pain of dealing with it.”
What are some common misconceptions about working in IT/tech? “80% of the value created is between the people in the business and not just the tech or machines we are using or helping to protect.”
Do you have a succession plan? “I strongly believe in succession planning. As a leader, we should always be aware of the talent within our ranks and make sure to develop growth plans alongside them.”
