InfoShot: What’s your IP worth to an employee?

How concerned are you about insider threats? Think your employees would never sell you out for a bag of chips? You’d be wrong.

A new study from Clearswift shows that not only do employees have plenty of access to your company’s precious Intellectual Property, a large chunk of them would also sell you out in a heartbeat. Nearly half (44%) have access to sensitive IP, and over a third (35%) have access to information above their pay grade.

But it’s not just access organizations should be worried about, it’s what employees are willing to do with your IP that should be a concern. While 65% of employees said they “wouldn’t sell data for any price”, employee loyalty goes out the window for many when faced with enough cash: 3% of employees would sell information for just $150 – the price of a slap up meal; 18% would sell for $1,500, and 35% of employees would sell you out as the offer reaches $75,000. According to the study, bribes accepted include a laptop, family holiday, or a nice car.
