What was the most valuable piece of career advice that you received?
The best advice I received was to never feel comfortable in your position, always examine the professional value you bring to your role and make sure you increase your professional market value.

What was the worst piece of business advice that you received?
I can’t think of a bad piece of advice. All advice is good one way or another – it’s how you apply it that’s crucial.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the tech industry?
Look for technology domains that are at the beginning of their lifecycle and have a long future ahead of them (such as artificial intelligence, big data, cyber security) and choose a career path focusing on such a domain. I’d also suggest you examine your personal strength and see if they are around the business aspects of technology or if they are primarily technological, and according to that to plan your path and moves.

What tips would you give to someone aiming for a c-level position?
The 3 tips I can give are:

1)      Make sure you bring significant and noticeable value to the organisation in each role in your chosen path. What can you do that will have the biggest impact on the company?

2)      Learn how to collaborate with other parts of the organisation. Good relationships are beneficial for the organisation’s business goals and for one’s reputation

3)      Make things happen even if it is not under your direct ownership. Be known as someone who pushes ideas and drives the organisation forward

Are you particularly proud of any career advice that you’ve given or the career route/development of anyone you’ve mentored?
I like to look at personal development for my team in the same way as I do my own. So as a manager I see it as my responsibility to make sure my team members’ value as marketing professionals increases all the time they are part of my team. I always encourage them to invest in developing unique and advanced expertise and knowledge in their field as it brings value to us as much as to their wider career opportunities.
