InfoShot: Zuckerberg beats Pokémon for downloads

Pokémon Go might have gathered over 100 million downloads since its release and broken all sorts of records, but even the power of Pikachu or Snorlax can’t compete with Mark Zuckerberg’s complete and sustained dominance of the app ecosystem.

In Q2, Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp all claimed in excess of 140 million downloads according to SensorTower’s data, with Instagram adding a further 85 million. When combined with Q1’s figures it takes Zuckerberg-owned app downloads to a mammoth 965 million. By the time you read this, that figure will almost certainly have crossed a billion. Snapchat is the only non-FB-owned app in the top five, with a respectable 140 million.

They might not be starting stampedes, but the ubiquity of Facebook properties across almost every smartphone in the world is staggering in its own right.
