What is your favourite personal gadget?
My Fitbit because it allows me to keep up to date with my health, track the sleep I’m getting and keep on top of my messages.

Do you have a favourite piece of personal software?
WhatsApp – I can stay in touch with friends really easily wherever they are around the world.

What was the first piece of technology you got really excited about?
When I was 12, I started to play around with QBasic, which allowed me to write my own software programs, such as a modem-based bulletin board system. It was quite easy to learn and first sparked my interest in the world of programming and tech. I’ve been hooked ever since!

What device improves your life most at work?
My iPhone because it allows me to do everything I need from one device – from catching up on email and working to keeping in touch with friends and family and listening to music.

What software keeps you most productive at work?
Slack is very good for collaborating with my team. We now have offices in Munich, New York and the Netherlands, which could make communication quite difficult or slow at times. But using Slack enables cross-team, cross-continent collaboration very easily.

Is there any technology that has become extinct that you would like to resurrect?
I’d like to bring back mobile phones that have fully working keyboards. While the touch screens on smartphones today are good, I could type so much faster on my old BlackBerry, something that very quickly adds up when you’re trying to respond to more than 200 emails a day!

Is there any technology you would personally recommend that you don’t think enough people know about? (Hardware or software, work or personal)
While using big data to improve business processes is nothing new, there are new forms of data analytics software that make it easier to visualise and understand processes to pinpoint inefficiencies. Known as Process Mining, this technology helps businesses squeeze out every last drop of operational effectiveness.

Do you think anything about your personal use of tech would surprise your colleagues?
I use several different messaging apps all day every day, but despite the high number of messages I receive, I always make sure every single one is answered in a timely manner. Whether that’s an email from a supplier or a WhatsApp message from an old friend, it’s important to not let the stresses of running a business get in the way of keeping in touch.
