Enterprises are faced with the challenging tasks of integrating and maintaining cloud, IoT, mobile, and other technologies into their infrastructures. Over 388,000 professionals have used IT Central Station research to inform their purchasing decisions. Its latest paper looks at Sophos UTM and Stormshield Network Security two of the highest reviewed solutions in the unified threat management market.

Below is a brief summary of the report, highlighting what real IT Central Station users think of each solution - from their most valuable features, to how they've improved individual businesses, as well as what each solution could do better.

Sophos UTM

Protecting businesses from known and emerging malware - viruses, rootkits and spyware

With an average rating of 8.4 from 20 reviews, Sophos UTM is one of the highest rated solutions available on the market. Deployed largely throughout the healthcare, financial services, and comms services industries, the solution is popular with organisations of all sizes. 62% of reviewers come from small companies with less than 200 staff, whilst larger (1000+ employees) and midsize (200-100 employees) organisations make up 20% and 18% of reviewers respectively.

The solution's web security features are praised highly by reviewers alongside its strong firewall capabilities and the ease at which it allows configuration troubleshooting. In addition, Sophos UTM also provides iPhone and iPad support which users find useful. However, the solution's SD-WAN featured could be improved if the vendor wishes to assert dominance over the market, and it could also benefit from the introduction of cloud soundboxing.

Stormshield Network Security

Enables you to establish and configure user-based security policies

Achieving an average rating of 7.2 from five reviews, Stormshield Network Security is a firm choice for those looking to improve their unified threat management. Of interest to software R&D companies, comms service providers, and financial services firms, it also appeals to organisation of various sizes. Midsize organisations make up 44% of users, with larger organisations claiming 22% market share and smaller companies assisting 33% of users.

Easily manageable in a variety of environments, plaudits highlight how Stormshield Network Security is both quick and easy to configure, whilst also providing good scalability and stability. Unfortunately, critics argue that the solution's SD card could be more secure, and it also needs to address web filtering more effectively. These issues are further compounded by a relatively high price point which users do not necessarily agree with.
