What was the most valuable piece of career advice that you received?

Feeling too accomplished or too comfortable is a dangerous thing. Remember that the work is never truly done. Make your biggest asset in the business world the fact that you don't know how to quit.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the tech industry?

Get focused from the very beginning on measuring the ROI of every dollar spent – whether those dollars are yours or your clients’.

Take personal responsibility and work to be a “leader” not a “victim.” Choose to be a leader who is not afraid to challenge yourself and others around you.


What tips would you give to someone aiming for a c-level position?

Handle your emotions. If you plan on potentially running a business someday, you’ll wake up at 6:00am ready to take on the world. You’ll think that your product and your team are the best around. Then around lunch time you’ll receive a series of phone calls and emails that may lead you to wonder if you’ll be in business in the next two months. So if you can handle the range of your emotions, you’ll do just fine.

One of the secrets to winning is to build an amazing team and one of the challenges of leadership is to maximize your teams’ talents and inspire them to perform at their peak level. The more you can learn to identify and nurture strengths in others, the stronger the leader you’ll be.


Are you particularly proud of any career advice that you’ve given or the career route/development of anyone you’ve mentored?

I’m proud of the growth that I’ve witnessed in the entire team at Integrate over the last four years. Victory is a team effort. It doesn’t matter if you have a few individual excellent performances; that is not the key to victory. The key is that all components of the team function fluidly. A sports team doesn't achieve victory without everybody doing their best. It’s the same in business. Success is defined by organizations made up of individuals who make a commitment every day to “bring it”.  This lesson has implications for building a strong, successful and competent organization.
