What tech do the c-suite really get excited about?

Name: Hunter Macdonald

Job title: CEO

Company: Tutela

Industry: Software / Big Data

Location: Victoria, Canada

Years’ of experience: 6

What is your favourite personal gadget?
When I’m not working I do everything possible to get off the grid. Vacation is no fun if the office can still call me! I love my Powermonkey Solar Charger. It helps me keep my camera charged while I’m out hiking so that I can take more pictures to make my co-managers jealous.

Do you have a favourite piece of personal software?
I really don’t include much technology in my life outside of work. I’m weird like that and it often surprises friends that I’m a tech CEO.

What was the first piece of technology you got really excited about?
When I was 15 I saved up enough to buy my first Samsung Yepp MP3 player. I bragged to all my friends at school about the 10 songs in could hold with its 32MB storage. Unfortunately changing the songs was quite difficult so I learned that set VERY well.

What device improves your life most at work?
Our DeLonghi Magnifica S Cappuccino machine keeps our office and especially me running.

What software keeps you most productive at work?
Probably Docusign. I hate chasing signatures and Docusign makes that incredibly simple.

Is there any technology that has become extinct that you would like to resurrect?
No. If it is extinct, it is probably for a good reason!

Is there any technology you would personally recommend that you don’t think enough people know about? (Hardware or software, work or personal)
Not really. However, if you still only use a single computer monitor you’re crazy. Most of my company has three going at any time.

Do you think anything about your personal use of tech would surprise your colleagues?
Yes. Probably the fact that I barely use any technology outside of work. However, I always have the latest and greatest tech gadgets related to camping and hiking. Sometimes I answer customer questions at Mountain Equipment Co-op and the actual employees get annoyed.
