CIO Spotlight: Prasad Ramakrishnan, Freshworks

What roles or skills are you finding (or anticipate to be) the most difficult to fill? “… the role of the business analyst or IT product manager as it is being referred to nowadays, is very critical.”

What has been your greatest career achievement? I’ve had many great experiences and achievements throughout my career, but the moments where I’ve been able to empower my employees, give them the tools they need to thrive and watched them grow have been some of the most rewarding. Our people are our greatest asset, and helping the Freshworks family get through this pandemic with tools to work from anywhere around the world is something I’m incredibly proud of.

Looking back with 20:20 hindsight, what would you have done differently? I like to take life as it comes, and I never regret the decisions of the past. You can never change the past. Had I known that my passion would be IT, I may have moved into IT earlier than I did, but I firmly believe that my stint in product development and consulting are making me a better IT leader because it enables me to effectively interact with consulting partners, implementation consultants, and product companies.

What are you reading now? I recently loved reading Leadership and Self Deception - which talks about getting out of the box to understand where others are coming from. It reminded me of I am OK, You are OK, a book I enjoyed reading many years ago.

Most people don't know that I… Most people don’t know that I have a spiritual side to my personality. I go on a pilgrimage every year, hiking through the forest, to get to know my inner self. It makes me a better person, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

In my spare time, I like to… I like to spend time away with my family and go outdoors whenever possible. It’s important to embrace the little things and express gratitude for the life and career that I’ve had the chance to live thus far. If there is one positive aspect of this pandemic, it is the fact that people have been able to spend time with their families and pets. Going for walks with my wife and kids most evenings and on weekends has enhanced the memories that we are giving to our kids. Even my dog, who used to see me for a few hours every day, sees me all day long, which has helped him become more playful and happy.

Ask me to do anything but… Sit and keep the lights running. If you do that, I am out of here!!!!
