CTO Sessions: Adam Dossa, Polymath

Which emerging technology are you most excited about the prospect of? "This one is easy for me. Since falling down the blockchain rabbit hole around 2016, I haven’t looked back."

More recently, Polymath spearheaded an industry wide effort to produce a standard for security tokens - the ERC-1400 standard. This involved bringing together stakeholders from across the industry (blockchain developers, standards experts, transfer agents, custodians, broker dealers, KYC / AML experts) in an open, collaborative way through workshops (physical and online), talks and discussions at conferences, and online documentation.

The ERC-1400 standard has received wide recognition, including being referenced in an OECD report on the tokenisation of assets.

Looking back with 20:20 hindsight, what would you have done differently? In order to remain motivated and engaged over a long career, I think it’s important to focus on how you can best add value in any given role, rather than being constrained by a particular organisational structure. This can be hard, especially at a more junior level, but over the long term serves both individuals and their employers very well.

Being willing and able to change direction, take breaks, learn new skills, and throw caution to the wind in terms of career progression and direction is important. There were times in my earlier career where I could have made changes faster with more confidence!

What are you reading now? I read a lot of fiction, mainly science fiction or fantasy. I also try to stay current with research in my domain, so hang out in areas such as https://ethresear.ch/.

Most people don't know that I… love cheese - and I do mean *love* - all kinds, all flavours and all of the time!

In my spare time, I like to…I enjoy mountain biking and reading fiction. These help me to clear my mind and maintain my energy levels. I also spend a lot of time playing with other blockchains, DeFi protocols and reading and auditing on-chain code.

Ask me to do anything but… Despite being comfortable architecting complex engineering systems in code, ask me to paint a wall, or put together IKEA furniture and my mind goes blank. DIY is my greatest nemesis!
