Enterprise GitHub projects of the week: Blockchain special

Open Source is everywhere, and quickly becoming the new norm for how companies approach software development. We take at a look at some of the Open Source projects based around Blockchain technology.

OpenChain from CoinPrism

Find it at: https://github.com/openchain/openchain

What it does: Openchain is an open source distributed ledger technology. It is suited for organizations wishing to issue and manage digital assets in a robust, secure and scalable way.

Why is it useful: OpenChain provides instant transaction confirmation. A lack of proof-of-work means scaling issues are avoided, meaning thousands of transactions can be process quickly. Privacy levels can be customized, and Smart Contracts easily implementable.

 Sawtooth from Hyperledger

Find it at: https://github.com/hyperledger/sawtooth-core

What it does: Hyperledger Sawtooth is a modular platform for building, deploying, and running distributed ledgers.

Why is it useful: Sawtooth provides an extremely modular and flexible platform for implementing transaction-based updates to shared state between untrusted parties coordinated by consensus algorithms. Sawtooth makes it easy to develop and deploy an application by providing a clear separation between the application level and the core system level, and provides smart contract abstraction that allows application developers to write contract logic in a language of their choice.

Burrow from Hyperledger

Find it at: https://github.com/hyperledger/burrow

What it does: Hyperledger Burrow is a permissioned smart-contract blockchain machine.

Why is it useful: Burrow provides a modular blockchain client with a permissioned smart contract interpreter partially developed to the specification of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Burrow is built for a multi-chain universe with application specific optimization in min, and provides transaction finality and high transaction throughput on a proof-of-stake Tendermint consensus engine.
