What was the most valuable piece of career advice that you received?
It’s not much of a secret, but just make sure you are working with brilliant people.  You can go on the best training courses in the world - and you should - but the learning you get day-to-day working with the best people in your industry is what will set you up for life.

What was the worst piece of business advice that you received?

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the tech industry?
Be comfortable with ignorance.  There's a temptation to think you need to be across everything but that's neither possible nor credible.  It's fine not to know the latest tech solutions but it's not fine to pretend you do.  It's a sign of strength to ask questions.

What tips would you give to someone aiming for a c-level position?
Don't ever aim for a c-level position.  You'll end up in a c-level position because the people around you want you in that role. You get pushed up into the top roles.  The more you want them, the less suited you are to them.  Be brilliant in every job you do and promotion to the c-suite is inevitable.

Are you particularly proud of any career advice that you’ve given or the career route/development of anyone you’ve mentored?
I find it most rewarding when someone has picked up on something I'm not even aware I've said - and they've seen it as significant to them.  While most of the time of course I think I give earth-shattering insight and advice but am totally ignored.
