The CMO Files: Tom Libretto, Pegasystems

Name: Tom Libretto

Organization: Pegasystems

Job title: Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, US

  1. Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised on the eastern end of Long Island, NY
  2. What was your first job?
My first “official” job was stocking shelves at the local grocery store at the age of 14. But well before then, I was pushing a lawn mower around the neighborhood with entrepreneurial gusto!
  3. What was the first product you got really excited about?
The Commodore 64 computer. I was blown away by the concept of inserting a “floppy” piece of plastic into a disk-drive and the whole new world appearing on a monitor screen.
  4. Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
The gentleman who hired me into my first “career” job at Lotus Development Corp. He’s continued to be a great mentor and friend throughout both my career and within my personal life. He’s taught me many valuable lessons along the way, the most profound of which is the importance of self-awareness.
  5. What has been your greatest achievement?
I’d have to say it’s coming from a very humble background to build a beautiful family and an exciting career, both of which I am extremely proud.
  6. What has been your biggest mistake?
That’s a hard one.  I’m not one for regrets. I like to press forward and leverage learnings, both positive and negative, into growth opportunities. But, then again, I didn’t buy into Apple or Amazon early enough
