InfoShot: Desktop Search Decline is Reshaping Google

Some might say Google’s days of being search engine king are numbered. Why? The nature of search is changing as more users are shifting from desktops to mobile devices. Apps are commanding 86% of the average US mobile consumer’s time, or 2 hrs and 19 minutes per day. This poses some challenges for Google as it needs a better way to measure mobile engagement than using web browsing metrics.

Google might be facing some technical challenges in tuning its search engine for smartphones and tablets, but it is making moves to boost the quality of websites and simplify how people search for local businesses.
