Typical 24: Genoveva Navas, Kantox

Genoveva Navas

Job title: Head of Finance

Company: Kantox

Location: London, UK (Headquarters) –  Barcelona (Spain) My working office

Years’ experience: 12 years

  1. What time do you reach the office each day?
Around 9 a.m. depending on traffic.
  2. Is your job varied?
Yes, every day, it´s something different. When you work in a fast-growing company you never get bored!
  3. Is your job creative?
Yes, we are always looking for ways to improve processes or implement new ones. Given certain limited resources, we have to get creative with the ways that we solve problems.
  4. What do you spend the majority of your time doing?
Dealing with my inbox takes too much of my time! Otherwise I am analysing and reviewing reports making sure our accounts are accurate and up-to-date, keeping our costs and treasury under control.
  5. Do you personalise your desk?
If by personalisation you mean “liberal usage of post-it notes”, then yes!
  6. Would you describe yourself as creative?
Yes, when it comes to numbers and processes, but I´m certainly not the ´go-to´ person when it comes to designing the office layout.
  7. Do you have any quirky daily rituals?
Coffee time with my team at 11am is a must!
  8. Do you tend to work on your own or with colleagues?
    I would say both.
  9. How many hours on average do you work a day?
I try to avoid doing overtime when possible. However, like in any job, staying late sometimes is inevitable, especially when deadlines are approaching. On Friday afternoons, though, I go home on time, no questions asked!
  10. Roughly how much time do you spend each day on email? Taking calls? In meetings?
My inbox, my phone and our meeting room (lovingly referred to as the think tank) easily take half of my working day.
  11. Do you use social media much for work?
At first, I tried to avoid it, but lately, I´ve been warming up to it (especially thanks to our amazing content writers!)
  12. What do you enjoy most about your work?
When you work in a project and you can see the direct impact of your results, it´s extremely satisfying, especially when the project takes a long time to complete.
  13. What type of music (if any) do you listen to at work?
Sometimes when I need to use my full concentration, I listen to Bruno Mars.
  14. What do you do for lunch?
Normally I bring my own food and share the lunch time with colleagues from different departments. You cannot imagine how much you can learn in the breakroom!
  15. Do you socialise with work colleagues?
Sure! Getting on with my colleagues makes my work a lot easier.
  16. Are there any tasks (through your career) you’ve been especially glad to get rid of?
    Bookkeeping for sure!
  17. What is your last task of your day?
My to-do list for the next day
  18. How do you like to relax after work?
A good bike-ride back home and sharing some quality time with my 4-year old son.
  19. Do you keep checking email through the evening?
It depends. Normally no, but during peak periods, I´ll sometimes need to.
  20. Do you take work projects home with you?
I try not to, but sometimes the job requires it.
  21. What would you say to your 20-year old self?
Do not take your job too seriously. At the ends of the day, it´s only a job!
  22. If you could try out any job for a day, what would you choose?
Finance Professor at the university level.
  23. What device did you use to answer these questions?
    My laptop!
  24. Do you use your own personal device for work?
No, only when checking emails from home
