What was the most valuable piece of career advice that you received?
Stay close to the customers and where the business is done!

What was the worst piece of business advice that you received?
Try to learn more about the political game of this company….

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the tech industry?
Find a company that can offer you challenging tasks which allow you to work closely with the customer. Nothing beats the experience you build up working close to demanding customers.

What tips would you give to someone aiming for a c-level position?
There is no magic; it’s all about working hard, delivering value above expectations in whichever role you have and focus on results rather than politics. And make sure you enjoy what you do!

Are you particularly proud of any career advice that you’ve given or the career route/development of anyone you’ve mentored?
I had the opportunity to mentor a very ambitious mid manager within administration in a large IT Group. In one of our sessions I said to her: “the way you speak you should be in sales!” She was surprised, she never thought of herself as a sales person, but a few months later she made the move into sales. Today, she is a successful Sales Director for large accounts at the same IT company.
