Former Marketo COO hails 'brilliant' Adobe deal

Adobe's 20 September swoop to purchase Marketo for about $4.75bn is nicely illustrative of the way that digital marketing continues to heat up. More proof: a new survey by accountants Moore Stephens suggests digital marketing spending grew 44 percent to $52bn in the US and UK alone while global spending is approaching $100bn.

One man with a clued-up view of the significance of Adobe-Marketo is Jason Holmes, a former Marketo COO who is now in the same post at sales and marketing platform provider Showpad. I swapped emails with Holmes and following is a lightly edited representation of our exchange.


IDG Connect: What's the significance of Adobe-Marketo and do you see a good fit between the pair?

Holmes: From the Adobe side, this is a great addition to the Adobe Marketing business and it's also a great outcome for Vista Equity [Partners, the private equity company that acquired Marketo in 2016].
