Nokia 9 Release Date, Price & Specification Rumours

When the Nokia 8 Sirocco arrived in February at MWC we told you it was the Nokia 9 we'd been waiting for. And it was. Sort of. We also pointed out that it was running a 2017 Snapdragon 835 processor rather than the 2018 Snapdragon 845, and we've since learned this is because - obviously - the Nokia 8 Sirocco was the Nokia 9 2017 and the Nokia 9 2018 is yet to come.

Apart from some mild confusion, what we're going to take away from this is the fact something even better is still hiding behind the scenes at Nokia, and this time it will be called the Nokia 9. And that's something we can all be happy about, right?

When is the Nokia 9 release date?

According to Nokia Power User the Nokia 9 will go on sale by the end of 2018. We'd expect to see an IFA 2018 launch, which would mean a probable announcement on 30 August.

It says the Nokia 9 will be joined by a Nokia 8 Pro, which will be similar to the Nokia 8 Sirocco but with a Snapdragon 845. So Nokia must have something more exciting than a new processor up its sleeve for the Nokia 9. We'll look at what to expect later on in this article.

How much will the Nokia 9 cost?

It's common sense to assume the flagship Nokia 9 will cost more than the Nokia 8 Sirocco, which has an RRP of €749 or around £660. With this in mind we'd expect the Nokia 9 to be priced in line with other flagships such as the Galaxy S9, which will go on sale on 16 March at £739/$719.

What are the rumoured features and specifications for the Nokia 9?

The most exciting rumour we've heard about the upcoming Nokia 9 is that it will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, which is of course the tech we were hoping to see in the Galaxy S9 and now may not even see in the Note 9 that launches in August. If Nokia can get out ahead of its rivals with that tech it could be garnering column inches for all the right reasons.

Nokia Power User claims this rumour has been confirmed by one of its trusted sources in China, but that this source also says the Nokia 9 could sport a notch just like that of the iPhone X in order to maximise screen area.

Other specification rumours include a Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 8GB of RAM, a Zeiss 22Mp dual-lens camera and a larger 5.7in Quad-HD+ POLED screen.

We'd expect it to feature the same high-end tech as the Nokia 8 Sirocco, which means you can also look forward to Qi wireless charging and IP67 waterproofing. There's no headphone jack on that phone, so expect to rely on USB-C for audio here, too.

We'll bring you more Nokia 9 rumours as we hear them.
