Android device updates: Verizon Pixel and Pixel XL get a bug fix update right out of the box

If you’ve unwrapped a new Pixel from Verizon, there’s already an update waiting for you. It’s a hopeful sign that Verizon will keep to its pledge that it won’t stand in the way of rapid software updates.

Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.

Verizon

Pixel XL: A minor update should hit your new Google phone right out of the box. According to Verizon, build NDE63P improves Wi-Fi connectivity.

Pixel: Same update for the Pixel. Verizon says you should get an over-the-air update with the same build number, which also improves how the phone handles Wi-Fi connections.

Google

Android 7.1 Developer Preview: Along with getting the Android beta update through Google’s official channel, you can also flash the factory images yourself. Google posted them to the Android Developers site, with downloads available for the Nexus 6P, 5X, and Pixel C. No images are to be found yet for the Nexus 6 or 9, so you may just need to enroll in the beta.
