Nexus 6P software update fixes several performance issues

It’s Christmas in March for Nexus owners.

Just a day after we learned the Nexus 5X would gain several bug fixes with the monthly update, a Googler took to Reddit with a similar announcement about the Nexus 6P.

The OTA software update will begin rolling out today and also include the March security patches. The issues are very similar to the improvements slated for the Nexus 5X:

  • General device performance
  • Do Not Disturb next alarm disappearing issue
  • Carrier-specific bug fixes
  • Connectivity improvements

As always, you can head to the Nexus factory images if you want to flash the new software yourself.

The impact on you: This is the way smartphone software updates should be: timely, regular fixes that improve security and quickly squash bugs. Google is showing the other hardware makers how it’s done, and it appears to be having some impact with other companies like Samsung and LG that jumped on the monthly security fix train. Now that Android N is out so early, there’s even less excuse for companies to drag out software updates for months after a new version of Android is released.
