Mobile devices are increasingly prevalent in all aspects of life today. According to IDG Connect’s recent worldwide survey of 3,124 IT and business professionals, 71% of respondents now have a tablet. It is also reported that nearly 80% of the Fortune 100 are already deploying or piloting iPhone and iPad in their business, which reflects how more and more enterprises are beginning to make good use of these convenient, user-friendly technology products. Some enterprise users frequently utilize wireless enterprise networks and mobile devices for streaming broadband video, watching online videos, webcasts, meetings or other usages. Undoubtedly, Generation “M” – the generation of wireless applied multimedia – has come.

For example, when salespeople leave their offices and use their mobile devices to show customers the company’s websites and product information, they can add video or multimedia to enhance attractiveness, or move to video conferencing or other multimedia applications using a wireless network. Using mobile devices and wireless networking at work will be a growing trend in enterprise development.

The challenge of how to properly manage and monitor access to wireless networks in and out of the office, especially the network pressure created by access to multimedia content, has been an increasingly serious concern for enterprises. IT departments should ensure that the bandwidth is large enough to accommodate the required video transmission capacity, in order to maintain the continuity of video connection and avoid latency. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the network will still be available when an error occurs, so that the impact of the downtime affecting business can be minimized.

Enterprises are looking for a suitable network solution for the needs of their business and employees, so as to provide customers with secure and fast wired and wireless network connections. An ideal solution should provide both wired and wireless network access at data rates up to 300 Mbps, and has the intelligence to prioritize traffic based on a user’s identity, device, application and location. In addition, it should provide centralized management, context-aware network access, consistent wired and wireless policy control, RF intelligence, and security for mobile users.

With the secure and high-speed network services in both indoor and outdoor environments, employees are enabled to browse and implement multimedia content. Ultimately, enterprises can deliver information, online videos, webcasts, surveillance and meetings through a wireless network smoothly, and embrace the benefits of Generation “M”.
