InfoShot: There's a Lot of Apps for That (Whatever 'That' Is…)

Amazon said yesterday that it now has 240,000 apps and games in its Amazon Appstore. That total represents a near tripling of apps volume in a year, covering 200 countries, and it underscores the strength of what we might call the App Economy.

Of course, the numbers of apps out there on respective platforms need to be treated with caution. Some apps no longer work, some are rubbish and of course most are free, rather than paid for. But with efforts like HTML5 struggling for impact, apps remain fundamental to the future of mobile platforms.
