InfoShot: Data trust in Europe 2015

Who do Europeans trust most with their data? When Symantec surveyed [PDF] over 7,000 respondents across seven European markets it found most chose the healthcare industry as the most trusted area. Interestingly, this was despite the fact that the sensitive medical data of millions of patients was compromised in the UK last year. And some security experts believe that 2015 will be the year for the “healthcare hack” in the US.

Maybe this just shows how little trust consumers have in the other sectors? The report did not bode well for social media and tech companies. There are many reasons for the public to be wary. Major tech giants Microsoft, Facebook and Yahoo! revealed that they hand over user data to the US government every six months, and Facebook admitted to manipulating user data to test if they could make people feel more positive or negative.
